Artemis Fauna near and far

It’s August, that means tis the month of Artemis on her yearly Scottish tour. Obviously an event I can’t let pass by without a shoot. This time I thought we’d shoot near my house, there is a very quiet wood nearby, a disused quarry no less……covered in vines and greenery, Afterwards we walked over to another location by the river, an old harbour where they used to load the stone work onto ships.

Then a fair trip up to Lunan Bay, where we would meet another photographer that had booked Artemis. We had an hour or so before the next photographer showed up. It was good trek along a sandy coast to the end of the beach where it ended at a cliff with a twin entrance cave…..I love a good cave!

Firstly images in the woods for a soft ethereal look…

And for some nude work in the vines……

Moving on to an old harbour….for some portrait and figure work

Then a trip to Lunan Bay……caves, rocks and pools…….

Then a quick change of outfit……

Artemis Fauna

At this point the other photographer appeared and it was a fond farewell to Artemis, a rather productive shoot all in all. And a rather long trudge back to the car in the sand and beating sunshine, during which I got my head burnt….lol. Still, it was a good fun day out with lots of cracking images to edit and finalise. If you haven’t work with Artemis Fauna before then you are missing out on a lovely experience, she is friendly, professional and very experienced. Get in touch, book a shoot, you wont regret it.

Fuerteventura – Day 3 – The Water Park and Kittens

So the last location of the trip was an abandoned waterpark, it was a huge area built as an outdoor fun park with pools and bars etc etc. Now it was completely derelict and vacant, debris strewn everywhere, lots of side rooms, graffiti everywhere….just a perfect place to shoot!

Then after a quick snack and a drink…..cuz it was mega hot in the waterpark….

And so we head back to base where we had more snacks and more drinks, so far up to this point the park was utterly deserted and only we were there. While we were having our break four people arrived, one carrying a box that looked like a pet carrier. I said hello and got only a grunt in reply as they sauntered off with their box. After 10 mins or so they returned, ignored us and left, at which point Ivory Flame noticed they now longer carried the box. Highly suspicious I thought, so Simon and I went off to investigated and found that they had abandoned three tiny kittens in the box. They had opened the box and left them food and water but the reality is that the kittens would have quickly died in the heat, the water park had no water or any type of food for them to survive.

We gathered up the kittens and looked after them while Simon tried to phone round and contact some kind of cat sanctuary. It didn’t go well, nobody seemed to want them, the sanctuaries were full as were foster cat parents. The only option was to take them to the vet and see if they could help, in mutual and enthusiastic agreement we cut the shoot short and rushed to the vets before it closed.

It was a bit of a drive, and I sat in the car with the box of kittens on my knee, unfortunately the blankets inside stank of cat pee. We arrive at the vets and get them examined, they all seemed healthy except for one kitten who was born with only one eye, they were covered in fleas and just needed some tlc. I think we all wished we could take them home but that was impossible, again the vet struggled to find a home for them. The only options was to take them to the police station as they are obliged to take them and find whatever shelter they can get. So off we go again on another car chase to find the police station, hampered of course by confusing roadworks. Eventually we get there, well done Simon for getting us there, and of course……it’s closed! We ring the bell and eventually an officer appears and in we go, he looks a little confused….however after 10 mins of getting the story to him, he said he’d take the kittens, get an on call vet and find a cat sanctuary.

I think we were all a bit relieved in the end and we had done our bit, we got back to the villa and with a glass of wine we celebrated and declared ourselves Heroes!

Many thanks to Artemis Fauna and Ivory Flame for a fabulous trip, and to my new friends Paul and Simon.

If you fancy a photographic adventure then check out Artemisian on Facebook, Highly recommended.

Fuerteventura – Day 3 – The Villa

An Artemisian Adventure

After a lovely breakfast we started off with a morning around the villa before heading off to a location in the afternoon, the villa is a lovely structure with lots of nooks and crannies to shoot in.

Artemis and I decided that lingerie was a good choice.

a duo shoot around the garden and rooftops….

Now some art nude with Ivory Flame….

Ivory Flame

Great fun with a huge variety of shots….but now off to the next location…the Water Park.

Fuerteventura – Day 2 – The Riverbed

An Artemisian Adventure

An early bumpy ride to a dried up riverbed this morning, you could drive the car right along the river bed for a good stretch before getting out to walk the rest. It was dry and dusty with pockets of small sand dunes in places, the riverbed was full of side channels where the water would flow into. It is a fascinating place to be sure. Just an ideal location for some art nude in the wild…or perhaps a lunar landscape, it definitely looked like a different planet!

We split again and Ivory Flame and I took off round one of the channels and found some interesting structures and hollows.

Ivory Flame

and a joint shoot when both models……

and then with Artemis…..

A very productive morning with an amazing landscape and amazing models. I’m glad it was a bit cloudy as I suspect the heat there would have been intense on a sunny day!

Fuerteventura – Day 2 – Beach and Ruins

An Artemisian Adventure

In the afternoon we headed of to a ruined and abandoned group of buildings, containing a wall garden and broken out buildings. Later made a trip to the beach, cuz like why not get soggy and wet for a while, in saying that I didn’t go in for a swim.

Starting off with the deserted walled garden….

And then in the late afternoon….we headed to the beach, just 5 mins from the villa…..

Another fun shoot getting soggy and sandy until the sun started to sink.

Fuerteventura – Day 1 – Arrival and Villa

I actually arrived the day before these shots, due my flights from Scotland being a bit awkward to say the least, however I got there and I was picked up at the airport. The villa where we were staying was lovely, a small oasis in desert. And after a delightful breakfast we got down to shooting around the villa, starting with Ivory Flame, a mixture of portraits and art nude.

An some art nude….

Ivory Flame

Then swapping to work with Artemis….

Then swapping back to Ivory Flame whilst Artemis made food…..

Ivory Flame

Such a lovely villa to shoot in…lots of shooting options and settings, and of course working with top models on such a location makes the whole experience a dream. Artemis and Ivory Flame are always a pleasure to work with and such pleasant company socially, it makes the whole trip very special.

Fuerteventura – Day1 – The Dunes of Arrakis

Day 1 of an Artemisian adventure in Fuerteventura with Ivory Flame and Artemis Fauna, at night we drove over to the dunes, a sandy area with mountains in the backdrop, a perfect scenario for everyone favourite scifi novels based on Dune. Ivory Flame and Artemis dressed for the occasion in fantastic outfits for the scenes….I think you will agree that they surpassed themselves. My fellow photographer on the shoot, Paul Hayward, shot with Artemis first and I shot with ivory Flame…

We swapped models for a while…..images of Artemis Fauna…

Artemis Fauna

And for the final scenes both models together….

Then as the sun went down into a hazy kind of softness we headed back to the villa for a couple of relaxing glasses of wine….as you do!!!

The Easter Bonnet with Carla

Another remote shoot with the very lovely Carla Monaco, featuring soft spring like themes with a hint of Easter. We got started fairly quickly as the set and Carla were all ready to go. Starting off with a painterly version…then moving on to traditional images, keeping the tones light, soft and airy

Carla Monaco

Then a quick change of outfit……

Carla Monaco

Another quick change in outfit….

Another change cuz why not…..I love different changes and outfits

Another great shoot with Carla comes to an end, but with more to come at a later date. Anyone looking to start trying remote shoots then I highly recommend booking Carla as her husband Adrian is there to guide you through the process and make any changes that might be needed. It’s a great team that will give beginners and pros excellent images quickly and easily.

The Flame at Basford Hurst

One of the benefits of remote shoots is being able to shoot in places you just can’t get to without a major upheaval and expense. And so it was that I snapped up the chance to work with Ivory Flame at Basford Hurst Cottage, a lovely place with lots of opportunities for classic images. Once we got the technical stuff set up we started off will a classic big dress on the staircase…quite tricky light and a good deal of editing needed to control the contrast, but well worth it.

And the same dress but with a change of colour, which I have to say took quite a bit of editing to get right.

Ivory Flame

Then a change of scene using the fantastic sunlight coming through the window…

Ivory Flame – double trouble

And some more window fun…..

Ivory Flame

And finally some art nude….

Ivory Flame

And so it ended, another ivory Flame adventure which always ends way too soon. However we still got to catch up, chat and discuss life, the universe and everything. If you are watching this and you haven’t booked this outstanding model then it’s about time you did, cuz like….you know you want to!

The Gates of Delirium with Chiara Elisabetta

On a cold but sunny February morning, I teamed up with Chiara for a remote shoot in which we adlibbed and generally winged it…cuz that’s what we do sometimes. We put a large mirror in the window to cut down the light but also to add a reflection. This worked out well and added a certain unusual element….

Chiara Elisabetta

Add with a touch of lingerie….

Chiara Elisabetta

Then we changed rooms for quite a different look…with a moving sofa that had a life of its own, a great source of amusing outtakes I may add.

In the end we ran out of time, actually to be more honest I lost track of time, however it was a very productive shoot and Chiara is very lovely to work with. She is very professional and fun, quick to have a chuckle and very creative. Highly recommended on a remote or a ‘in person’ shoot.
