Mr Spider's Demo Songs
From the CD 'Web of Lies'
(Contents of the CD)
Falling Apart - This is a santana style song about the ravages of time and the uncertainties of a less than stable relationship, the gradual decaying of a bond between two people that was at first fresh and exciting now starts to disentegrate after a length of time. Neither of them are sure what will happen next or what to do to re-establish their love life, if indeed they wish to do so.
Sugar Lane Blues - Every city has a Sugar Lane, its where the drug dealers, pimps and hookers hang out. This song is a cry for business from a hooker.
Running Man - This song is in free tempo, in other words the tempo varies and is out of time on purpose. This gives a stumbling panicky kinda of running feel, a bit like a backdoor lover running out of the window when the husband comes round. This time however its about a man running from a woman scorned and under threat from her voodoo man.
Mr Lucky - A song about gambling, a casino and card shark who's nickname is Mr Lucky mainly because he's constantly losing.
Bottle Blues - The fine art of drinking, the booze, the hooch......the hangovers! we've all been there!
Purple Shade of Gray - An instrumental, the title take from an old SCIFI book, the phrase 'like a purple shade of gray' is a replacement for a famous name...can you guess which?
Back Home - The story of the wayward son/daughter returning home from a wild gypsy life, learning life's lessons the hard way. Somewhat wiser and tougher after the rigours of the street and life on the road.
The Melty Man - So there you are in bed or whatever with a beautiful partner, things are getting hot, the fumblings have been fumbled, the rubbing bits have been rubbed....now its time for...but wait what's happened something has fallen limp and died?!!....The Melty Man has just visited!
Ain't no Good Men - 30ish woman looks around for a man but can't find one good enuff, they are all married or gay. Or are they?..could it be that its her perception of men that hinders her from finding a good man, after trying more a few is she jaded or simply expecting too much?. Ultimately she spends a fortune in batteries.
-* Tears for Bethany suite*-
Dark Days - a premonition from the voodoo man, a storm is approaching, prepare your heart he calls ... it will break and tears will fallThe Dash - an Instrumental featuring the Bass in a rising climatic end as our heroine makes a dash across town to get the hospital.
Tears for Bethany - based on a true story of a baby girl called Bethany, see the song lyrics below for the story and outcome. I will not write too much on this as the people concerned are good friends and I respect their privacy and feelings.
Empty - This is a kind of follow up from Bethany, from the emotional wasteland of tragedy and emptiness comes some form of hope, a light at the end of the tunnel .."A rainbow I did see, now I believe in something." (The song is also entwined with another story)

Tears for Bethany
The machines beep like a heartbeat
That will soon falter and fade
but they can't stop the dying
of this child God made.
I wanna pick her up and hold her, hold her in my hand
How this could be happening, I don't understand
I am waiting for the last heartbeat
waiting for her pulse to fail
tears stream down my face
Just like a mourning veil
and I can't stop the tears
and I can't stop the tears
People are talking to me
but I don't hear what they say
my eyes are fixed to the bed
and my heart starts to pray
Time is very short now and yet the minutes tick away
If minutes could be years I'd have her live every day
I am waiting for the last heartbeat
waiting for her pulse to fail
tears stream down my face
Just like a mourning veil
and I can't stop the tears
and I can't stop the tears
Fox's Blues also appears on the original Tears for Bethany CD
